Dilemma in church today<\/div>\n<div>A.\u00a0 Confusion, fears, doubts, chaos, anger, unforgiveness<\/div>\n<div>B.\u00a0 What is God&#8217;s will?\u00a0 Who do I trust?\u00a0 Where is God in my issues?<\/div>\n<div>Why is everything so hard?\u00a0 Am I supposed to judge; do I have to love everybody?<\/div>\n<div>C.\u00a0 right vs wrong; legal vs illegal; fair vs unfair; ethical vs unethical; truth vs lies;<\/div>\n<div>good vs evil<\/div>\n<div>II. Dilemma of Discernment (or lack thereof)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 A major factor in the dilemma is a lack of discernment by the body<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 Discernment is expected of the mature body members (Heb 5:14)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 C.\u00a0 If we discern then Eph 1: 18 = eyes of our understanding (heart) would<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0be enlightened and we would know the hope of God&#8217;s calling and the riches<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0of the glory of His inheritance and the exceeding greatness of His power<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0toward us<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 D.\u00a0 Discerning is a sifting through, close examination, perceiving,<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0understanding, scrutiny, discriminating deciphering thought<\/div>\n<div>III. Tree of knowledge of good and evil {Genesis 3: 5-6} appeals to the soul<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 be like God<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 appealing to senses\u00a0 (see, good to eat) and desirable to make one wise<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (so we can decide what is good and what is evil)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 C.\u00a0 can&#8217;t trust feelings (Jer 17: 9) for out of heart comes the issues of life<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (Prov 4: 23)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 D.\u00a0 Discerning meant to be spiritual.\u00a0 If we use it in soul, we find ourselves.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 judging with bias.\u00a0 In the flesh we are condemning<\/div>\n<div>IV. To discern, we must trust in God and not lean on our understanding (Prov 3: 5)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 vs 7:\u00a0 not wise in own eyes<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 vs 13, 18:\u00a0 find wisdom, gain understanding \u2013 tree of life<\/div>\n<div>V.\u00a0 Not discerning Joshua and the Gibeonites (Josh 9)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 crafty vs 4<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 not discern 14<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 C.\u00a0 forced to defend and protect enemy; site of high place where Saul placed<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 tabernacle<\/div>\n<div>VI.\u00a0 Examples of discern<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 Eli for Samuel (boy) who did not know God or His Word `1 Sam 4<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 1 Kings 3: 4 Solomon asks; 12 God gives; 16 Solomon puts into practice;<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 exceedingly great understanding (4: 29)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 C.\u00a0 Acts 16: 16 Paul discerns spirit of divination even though it spoke<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0accurately<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 D.\u00a0 Acts 13: 9 Paul studies intently to realize the opposition of Elymas<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 E.\u00a0 Jesus realizes the entrapment (Luke 20:23) by hypocrites (Mark 12: 15)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 and perceived their wickedness (Matt 22: 18)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 F.\u00a0 Nathaniel without guile (John 1: 47)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 G.\u00a0 Jesus perceives people want to make Him king (John 6: 15)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>VII.\u00a0 Luke 12: 54-56 Jesus asks why we can discern weather and weather changes but not discern the time<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 Father gives Matt 11: 25<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 Priests teach Ez 44: 23-24<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 C.\u00a0 Word of God Heb 4: 12<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Spiritually discern 1 Cor 2: 14<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 D.\u00a0 Exercise senses, as mature Heb 5: 13-19<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 E.\u00a0 manifestation of Holy Spirit discern spirits 1 Cor 12: 10<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 F.\u00a0 Test spirits 1 John 4:1 for spirits masquerade as angels of light<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 2 Cor 11: 14-15<\/div>\n<div>VIII.\u00a0 Results from learning to and actually discerning<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A.\u00a0 examine everything and hold on to good 1 Thes 5: 21-22<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 B.\u00a0 Phil 1: 9-10 love abound with knowledge and discernment<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 C.\u00a0 Rom 12: 2 renewed, discerning mind prove good, acceptable, perfect<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 will of God.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 D.\u00a0 Prayer (from Phil 1: 9-11)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 E.\u00a0 Song<\/div>\n<div>Open the eyes of my heart Lord.\u00a0 Open the eyes of my heart.<\/div>\n<div>I want to see You.\u00a0 I want to see You<\/div>\n<div>Open the eyes of my heart Lord.\u00a0 Open the eyes of my heart.<\/div>\n<div>I want to see You.\u00a0 I want to see You<\/div>\n<div>To see You high and lifted up, Shinin&#8217; in the light of Your glory<\/div>\n<div>Pour out Your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy<\/div>\n<div>Holy, holy, holy, I want to see You.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Feb 2024<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Discernment I.
